Data Management
Ideal For
A student who is genuinely good with a spreadsheet and understands that a quiet data error costs far more than a loud one.
The Data Management Intern keeps the organization's records accurate enough to make decisions and spend money against. Unglamorous and load-bearing: every list, every send, and every report in the building depends on this work being done correctly.
Core Duties
- Perform data hygiene including deduplication, standardization, and correction of records.
- Process imports and exports, validating field mapping and record counts before and after.
- Build and document audience segments to specification for marketing and giving teams.
- Identify and report data quality problems, patterns, and root causes.
- Maintain data dictionaries and field definitions so terms mean the same thing across teams.
- Run recurring data quality audits and produce before-and-after documentation.
- Support list reconciliation between platforms.
- Follow data handling, privacy, and access policies without exception.
Role-Specific Qualifications
- Spreadsheet fluency assessed during screening — pivot tables, lookups, text functions.
- Coursework or experience in statistics, information systems, or analytics.
- Patience and precision with large, repetitive, detailed work.
- Understanding that data errors propagate silently.
Standard Qualifications — All Internships
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university; eligible for the Federal Work Study Program where applicable.
- Senior in high school, recent high school graduate, or GED equivalent.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general computer literacy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
- Discretion with confidential and pre-release information; adherence to all organizational policies, including confidentiality, data handling, and workplace safety standards.
- Prior office or customer service experience is a plus but not required.
Internship: minimum 16 hours per week, in person, Alexandria, VA. You are allowed to work up to 40 hours a week with limited overtime opportunities.
Every intern completes the program's five core competencies and attends the annual conference. Expect a written midpoint review, weekly one-on-one supervision, and a documented portfolio of completed work.
