Press & Editorial
Ideal For
An early-career communicator who has done the work and now wants to own the standard — and who is willing to teach it rather than just do it faster themselves.
The Press & Editorial Coordinator owns the organization's written and earned-media output and develops the interns who produce it. This is a twelve-month developmental staff role: the coordinator spends a full year learning one department at depth while carrying real ownership of its standards, calendar, and people.
Core Duties
- Own the editorial style guide and the press materials template set; teach both during onboarding.
- Serve as final review on releases, advisories, blog posts, and the daily clips report before distribution.
- Maintain the master editorial and announcement calendar across the portfolio.
- Own the organization's media list architecture and reporter relationship records.
- Manage the daily clips report as a delivered product with a fixed delivery time.
- Escalate adverse coverage and sensitive inquiries to senior staff on defined criteria.
- Run the source-verification protocol and the annual planted-errors training exercise.
- Recruit for the portfolio's three postings and identify advancement candidates.
Role-Specific Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; prior internship or entry-level experience in press, editorial, or political communications.
- Demonstrated writing and editing ability; portfolio required.
- Judgment sufficient to decide independently what goes public and what escalates.
- Willingness to supervise, teach, and deliver written feedback on a 48-hour turnaround.
- Availability outside standard hours during announcements and events.
Coordinator: full time, in person, Alexandria, VA.
